Hyderabad, September 09, 2026: The Bike Taxi Association (BTA) welcomed the appeal made by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, urging all state governments to permit private two-wheeler owners to operate as bike taxis across the country.
The BTA has long advocated for a uniform, pro-livelihood approach to bike taxi regulation and views the Minister’s statement as a timely, much-needed push in that direction. With Shri Gadkari highlighting the potential for 8 crore people to earn a livelihood through two-wheelers, the Association believes this could be one of the most significant employment-generation opportunities available to India’s youth, especially in semi-urban and rural areas where formal job creation remains limited.
Speaking on the development, Mr Amit Gawde, President, Bike Taxi Association, said: ” Union Minister Shri Gadkari’s appeal is a validation of what we have been saying for years: bike taxis are not a disruption; they are a livelihood lifeline. The 8-crore figure he has cited is not just a statistic; it represents real families, real incomes, and real dignity for lakhs of two-wheeler owners across India. We urge all state governments to act swiftly on this call. Every day of delay is a lost earning opportunity for someone who simply wants to work hard and support their family.”
The BTA reiterated its commitment to working with state transport departments to ensure safe, well-regulated, and inclusive implementation of bike taxi services nationwide.
