ASCI Employees Union Celebrates 88th Birthday of Chairman Padma Bhushan Shri K. Padmanabhaiah, IAS (Retd.)

Hyderabad, October 7, 2026: The Employees Union of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) today celebrated the 88th birthday of its esteemed Chairman, Padma Bhushan and former Home Secretary of India Shri K. Padmanabhaiah, IAS (Retd.), with great enthusiasm at the Bella Vista campus, Hyderabad.

ASCI Employees Union President Mr. Hariharan, Vice President Mr. Renu Prakash, General Secretary Mr. Hasan, and other Union members actively participated in the celebration. The event was marked by warm tributes and recollections of Shri Padmanabhaiah’s invaluable leadership.

Distinguished dignitaries—including ASCI Deans Dr. Nirmalya Bagchi, Dr. Janardhan Reddy, IAS (Retd.), and Dr. Valli Manickam; Registrar Dr. O.P. Singh; Mrs. Usha Rani, IAS (Retd.); family members of Shri Padmanabhaiah; and representatives from the Employees Union—spoke on the occasion.

A special song, written, composed, and sung by a team of musicians that included a member of the Employees Union, was presented in honour of Shri Padmanabhaiah.

Speakers fondly recalled how Shri Padmanabhaiah steered ASCI through challenging periods in 2015–16 and during the COVID-19 pandemic. They highlighted his vision and leadership in sustaining ASCI as an autonomous and independent organization that generates its own resources without receiving financial support from the Government of India.

In his address, Shri Padmanabhaiah thanked the employees for their warm wishes and celebrations.

Born on October 6, 1938, Shri K. Padmanabhaiah is a retired Indian civil servant and former Union Home Secretary of India. He currently serves as Chairman of the Court of Governors of ASCI and has chaired numerous high-level government committees, including the Committee on Police Reforms (2000), the Committee on Reorganisation of the Services Selection Board, and the Committee to Review the Working of the National Institute of Urban Management.

In recognition of his contributions to the Indian civil service, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan in 2008. His career also includes accolades such as the Giants International Award (1991), the Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration (1996), and the Shiromani Award for contributions to national development and integration.

The celebration concluded on a note of gratitude and admiration for Shri Padmanabhaiah’s decades of service to the nation and his enduring commitment to ASCI’s mission.
