NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 7, 2023 — 1% for the Planet®, a global organization that exists to ensure our planet and future generations thrive, announced that it has reached $500 million in certified giving and pledges to surpass $1 billion by its 25th anniversary in 2027, if not sooner.
The milestone was announced at 1% for the Planet’s 5th Annual Global Summit in Brooklyn, NY. While at the summit, 1% for the Planet Members and Environmental Partners shared three days of immersive talks and experiences on how businesses of all sizes and industries can impact the planet. With keynotes like Marine Biologist Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Patagonia’s Director of Philosophy Vincent Stanley, participants from around the world explored the urgent issues facing our planet as well as ways to maximize 1% for the Planet membership.
“The successful completion of our Global Summit and our $1 billion pledge demonstrates our continuing effort to harness the power of businesses big and small, with one goal in mind: to help our planet,” said Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet. “With more than 5,400 businesses supporting over 6,500 environmental nonprofits globally, we’re as committed as ever to spur partnerships that accelerate environmental action. These billion dollars is unique because it represents a collective—it’s not just a couple philanthropists giving large sums of money—it’s thousands of individuals and businesses committing to better business, and this is the sum of those actions.”
1% for the Planet also hosted the first annual Summit Awards recognizing business members with awards for change and innovation, partnership, and leadership. 1% for the Planet expects these awards to continue annually and become a prestigious mark for businesses showcasing their impact.
