New Delhi, Aug 24: The Centre has allowed additional time for renewable energy projects facing delays because of disruptions linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis, in a move aimed at preventing temporary setbacks from slowing India’s clean energy expansion.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has advised renewable energy implementing agencies and state authorities to consider extensions of up to four months for eligible projects that were scheduled for commissioning on or after February 28, 2026.
The decision covers projects being implemented through agencies including the Solar Energy Corporation of India, NTPC, NHPC and SJVN, along with concerned power and renewable energy departments of states and Union Territories.
The extension is intended to provide relief to developers dealing with difficulties arising from the regional crisis. Disruptions to transportation, supply chains and the movement of equipment can affect the timelines of large renewable energy projects, particularly those dependent on imported components and complex logistics.
The government’s move recognises these challenges while giving project developers additional time to complete work without facing unnecessary pressure because of circumstances beyond their control.
India has been rapidly expanding its renewable energy capacity as part of its broader clean energy transition. Solar and wind projects in particular require timely delivery of equipment, construction and grid connectivity, making stable supply chains important for maintaining the pace of development.
The latest measure is therefore aimed at balancing project timelines with the realities created by international disruptions. By allowing reasonable extensions, the government hopes to ensure that delayed projects can move ahead once logistical and supply-related difficulties ease.
The decision also reflects the Centre’s focus on maintaining investor confidence in the renewable energy sector while continuing the country’s long-term push towards cleaner and more sustainable power.
