New Delhi, August 18: India’s smartphone market declined 10 per cent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, reflecting cautious consumer spending, rising device costs and longer replacement cycles, according to the latest CyberMedia Research (CMR) India Mobile Handset Market Review.
The slowdown was concentrated in the affordable and value-for-money segments, which declined sharply, while the premium segment priced above ₹25,000 grew 54 per cent. The super-premium category, covering smartphones priced between ₹50,000 and ₹1 lakh, recorded an impressive 72 per cent growth, supported by continued aspirational demand and financing options such as zero-cost EMIs and trade-in offers.
The contrasting trends indicate a widening gap in consumer demand, with price-sensitive buyers delaying upgrades while affluent consumers continue to opt for higher-end devices. Vivo led the market with an 18.1 per cent share, followed by Samsung at 17.9 per cent, OPPO at 13.1 per cent, Xiaomi at 12.6 per cent and Realme at 9.9 per cent.
