Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Vocal for Local, Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte urges citizens and visitors to support Goa’s indigenous handloom traditions
Panaji, Aug 07: On the occasion of National Handloom Day, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, reaffirmed Goa’s commitment to preserving and promoting the state’s rich handloom heritage, with a special focus on the iconic Kunbi weave, while encouraging greater support for locally crafted products and the women artisans who keep these traditions alive.
Echoing Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism Shri Rohan A. Khaunte highlighted Goa’s unique handloom traditions, particularly the Kunbi weave, as an enduring symbol of the state’s cultural identity and women-led enterprise. He noted that since 2022, Goa has promoted Kunbi shawls, sarees, jackets and other handcrafted products during official felicitations, replacing conventional shawls to create greater awareness and market opportunities for local artisans.
Shri Khaunte further said that Goa’s villages and women artisans are the custodians of the state’s cultural heritage. Encouraging both residents and tourists to support locally made products, he stressed that every purchase empowers women, strengthens rural livelihoods and carries forward the Prime Minister’s vision of Vocal for Local, while taking Goa’s heritage from local to global.
