The Global Times, Amity’s student newspaper, hosted the 16th edition of the GT Awards at Amity University, Noida. The event brought together young journalists from 12 Amity International Schools and Amity Global Schools across India, who participated in the annual GT Making a Newspaper Contest 2025–26 by producing a complete edition of The Global Times. From writing compelling stories and crafting headlines to designing layouts, the students worked with remarkable creativity, enthusiasm, and professionalism. The annual competition aims to nurture creativity, critical thinking, and journalistic excellence among students.
The glittering finale concluded with Amity International School, Noida winning the coveted GT Winner’s Trophy. Amity International School, Mayur Vihar, and Amity International School, Sector-46, Gurugram, were declared the first runners-up jointly, while Amity International School, Sector-43, Gurugram, secured the second runners-up position. In addition, Amity International School, Saket, received the Jury Special Mention Award.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Ms. Sikta Deo, Contributing Editor & Senior Anchor, NDTV, applauded the students for their energy, enthusiasm, and journalistic spirit. Encouraging them to be fearless and inquisitive, she said, “Be curious and be fearless to ask difficult questions which others hesitate to ask. Students are the future leaders, and it is through their revolutionary thoughts, ideas and innovations, that they will transform the world.” She urged the young journalists to remain curious, honest, humble, and humane throughout their journey.
Dr. Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity Group of Schools, shared the inspiring journey of the inception of The Global Times and appreciated its significant role in instilling sensitivity and a strong sense of belonging among students. She noted that many alumni continue to return to their schools to be associated with their GT editorial teams. Drawing inspiration from the words of the People’s President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, she encouraged students to be disciplined, creative, inventive, and humble, while emphasizing that good behaviour is as important as knowledge. She also shared the vision of Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President Amity Education Group for Viksit Bharat 2047, expressing confidence that Amitians would contribute 99.9% towards realizing this vision.
The contest entries were meticulously evaluated by a distinguished jury comprising Ms. Bharti Jain, Special Correspondent, The Times of India, and Mr. Aqib Javed, Assistant Infographic Editor, The Times of India, on key journalistic parameters including reporting, design, visuals, storytelling, and overall presentation. Awards were presented across 11 editorial categories—Best Top Story, Best Interview, Best Autobiography, Best Perspective Story, Best Fictional Story, Best Poem, Best ABC of News, Best Ground Reporting, Best Humorous Story, and the GT Popular Choice Award – Best Headline—as well as 5 design categories comprising Best Graphic/Imaging, Best Illustration, Best Photograph, Best Science Ad, and Best Educational Poster. 8 alumni from the batch of 2025 were also honoured with the GT School Time Achievement Award in recognition of their exemplary dedication and impactful contribution to the GT Editorial Board. Additionally, mentor teachers from Amity International School, Saket, and Amity International School, VYC Lucknow, were honoured with the Best Mentor Teacher Awards for their exceptional efforts in nurturing young creative journalists.
The event also featured vibrant cultural performances by students, including energetic dance performances, a musical presentation, and a stand-up comedy act, adding to the celebratory spirit of the GT Awards. Ms. Vira Sharma, Managing Editor, The Global Times, welcomed the guests during the Awards Ceremony. The event was attended by principals, teachers, and students from Amity International Schools across the country.
