Mar 19: Gurgaon-based golf prodigy Vihaan Jain has made a remarkable mark on the international stage by winning his first title on the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) circuit. The 16-year-old clinched the AJGA Preview Tournament at OakWing Golf Club in Alexandria, Louisiana, on March 13, 2026, becoming the first Indian to secure victory at this prestigious event.
In his AJGA debut, Vihaan finished with an impressive 4-under-par (212) over three rounds (72, 68, 72) on a challenging 6,842-yard course. The tournament came down to a tense final hole, where Vihaan calmly sank a birdie on the 18th to seal his victory.
This win adds to a stellar year for the young golfer. Earlier in February 2026, he won the Indian Amateur Qualifier at the ITC Classic, pulling off an eagle on the final hole to force a playoff and clinch the title with a composed birdie finish.
Vihaan’s international journey has shown consistent promise, with notable performances including a Top-15 finish at the IMG Junior World Championship, a Top-20 finish at the FCG International Junior Championship, and back-to-back Top-20 finishes at the U.S. Kids Golf Teen World Championships in 2024 and 2025.
“I’m really happy to have won my first AJGA event—it means a lot, especially in my first appearance,” Vihaan said. “I’m grateful to my coaches for their guidance, my parents for their constant support, and the organisers for a great tournament. This just motivates me to keep working harder and improving my game to make my country proud on international platforms.”
Balancing academics and athletics, Vihaan studies at Laurel Springs School, maintaining a 3.97 GPA. His performances have also earned him a position among the Top 1500 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and within the Top 400 on the Junior Golf Scoreboard.
With his momentum building, Vihaan now sets his sights on collegiate golf in the United States, representing the next generation of Indian golfers making their presence felt on global platforms.
