Los Alamitos – Dec 18 – Odin Space, the leading provider of end-to-end solutions for lethal, non-trackable debris, and Arkisys, a pioneer in on-orbit infrastructure and operational systems, announced a partnership to equip Arkisys’ upcoming Cutter mission with Odin Nano Sensors™. By using this technology, Arkisys is setting a new standard of assurance as they become the first operator to offer their customers collision insurance based on verified debris impact data.
Powered by sub-centimeter debris intelligence and at the core of this collaboration are Odin’s Nano Sensors, which act as a “black box” for spacecraft. They record the exact moment and location of debris impacts – information operators have never had before. This clarity on sub-centimetre debris, and always-on collision monitoring, gives Arkisys a unique offering for their customers: affordable insurance powered by confirmed debris impact events.
Today, around 93% of spacecraft are uninsured due to the prohibitively expensive nature of legacy insurance policies. Together, this partnership will deliver the world’s first collision insurance solution, Collision Insurance Gateway™, giving Arkisys’ customers access to affordable financial protection. Using Odin’s technology, underwriters can now reliably attribute impact events, enabling collision-specific cover at premiums 100 times lower than traditional in-orbit insurance.
Arkisys demonstrates industry leadership by committing to sustainable operations in orbit. As launch rates surge and the risk of sub-centimetre debris escalates, this partnership represents a crucial first step toward a new era of space sustainability – one where operators can confidently expand their missions without compounding orbital risk.
James New, CEO and Co-founder of Odin Space, said: “Our partnership with Arkisys marks a pivotal shift in how the industry tackles the rising threat of lethal, non-trackable debris. As space operations mature, insurance must become a standard part of every mission. Offering premiums up to 100× cheaper than legacy policies is a major step toward that future. Equipping Arkisys spacecraft with Odin’s Nano Sensors is the first move in a new era of safer, smarter, more sustainable space activity.”
David Barnhart, CEO and Co-Founder of Arkisys, said: “By enabling insurance for the Arkisys Port Architecture flight elements (Cutter and Port Modules) in orbit, this partnership offers customers not just a new on-orbit commercial logistics domain but a proven method to safeguard their business investments and operations. We see this partnership as one of the key enablers for the new in-space circular economy to enable thousands of new customers to develop new commercial innovations in space. We are proud to host Odin’s unique new technology that enables this next step in space commercialization”.
