Amid record-breaking temperatures across several states, food delivery platform Zomato has issued a plea to its customers, asking them to refrain from placing orders during peak afternoon hours unless necessary. The request is seen as a measure to protect delivery executives from the severe heatwave conditions currently gripping the country.

In a post shared on the social media platform X, Zomato stated, “Please avoid ordering during peak afternoon unless necessary.” The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the intense heat will persist over the next few days, with several regions experiencing scorching temperatures.

The appeal has drawn a strong response from users on the internet, many of whom have expressed support for the initiative, recognizing the challenges faced by delivery personnel in such extreme weather conditions. By limiting orders during the hottest part of the day, Zomato aims to reduce the need for their delivery executives to ride their bikes in dangerously high temperatures.

Zomato’s proactive stance reflects a growing awareness of the impact of climate conditions on workers in the gig economy and the need for companies to prioritize their safety. As the heatwave continues, such measures are crucial in mitigating the risks posed by extreme weather.
