02/07/2024- The Zika virus continues to spread in Pune, with two new cases reported on Monday, bringing the total to six. Both new cases involve pregnant women. Four cases have been reported in the Erandwane area and two in Mundhwa.

The virus, transmitted by the Aedes mosquito, also causes dengue and chikungunya. A 16-week pregnant woman tested positive last night, adding to last week’s case of a 28-year-old woman, 22 weeks pregnant.

Health officials are conducting anomaly scans for the infected pregnant women and increasing surveillance in the affected areas. The initial cases involved a doctor and his teenage daughter from Erandwane, the same area as the two new cases.
