In a gripping low-scoring thriller at Nassau County Stadium, India clinched victory over Pakistan, thanks to Jasprit Bumrah’s miserly three-wicket haul and Rishabh Pant’s counter-attacking, match-saving knock. Despite a strong bowling performance, Pakistan’s batting woes and other critical factors led to their defeat.

Key Factors for Pakistan’s Loss:

Inexperience on the Pitch: Pakistan was playing on this pitch for the first time in the World Cup, while India had already adapted to it, having played and won against Ireland. This familiarity gave India a crucial edge.

Previous Match Momentum: India entered the game with winning momentum, having defeated Ireland. In contrast, Pakistan was under pressure after a loss to the USA, which affected their confidence and performance.

Batting Failures: Pakistan’s batting lineup faltered, particularly the middle order. After the powerplay, Pakistan struggled to score boundaries, with none until the final over. This lack of aggressive batting cost them dearly.

Pressure of Expectations: Head coach Gary Kirsten noted that Pakistan put undue pressure on themselves. The high-stakes nature of the India-Pakistan rivalry, coupled with fan expectations, further intensified this pressure, leading to mistakes.

Strong Indian Bowling: Jasprit Bumrah’s economical and effective bowling applied consistent pressure, taking crucial wickets and restricting Pakistan’s scoring opportunities. Hardik Pandey and Arshadeep Singh also did a good job with the ball.

Tough Chase: Although Pakistan’s bowlers did well to bowl out India in 19 overs, they set a target of 120 runs in 20 overs. Despite the seemingly manageable run rate of 6 per over, the lack of boundary-scoring ability and mounting pressure saw Pakistan fall short.

Despite these challenges, Pakistan’s bowlers showcased their talent, but the lack of support from their batting lineup ultimately led to their defeat.
