SWITCH Mobility Flags Off 145 Electric Buses at Chennai Central Bus Depot, Strengthening the City’s Sustainable Public Transport Network

Chennai, Mar 02: SWITCH Mobility, a global leader in electric buses and light commercial vehicles and part of the Hinduja Group, today flagged off 145 SWITCH EiV12 Low Floor Buses from the Central Bus Depot in Chennai, reinforcing the city’s electric public transport network. The fleet includes 100 AC and 45 Non-AC buses and marks a key milestone in Tamil Nadu’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility.

 The flag-off ceremony was graced by Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin, in the presence of Hon’ble Transport Minister, Mr. S.S. Sivasankar. The event highlights the Government of Tamil Nadu’s dedication to improving air quality, promoting “Disabled-Friendly Transport,” and advancing the nationwide vision of “No Emission Buses.”

Manufactured at SWITCH Mobility’s state-of-the-art facility in Tamil Nadu, the SWITCH EiV12 Low Floor Bus is designed for inclusive, efficient, and sustainable urban travel. Its ultra-low entry design with kneeling and tilting facilitates effortless boarding. Floor-mounted batteries ensure a low centre of gravity and superior stability, while rear-mounted charger ports allow quick and ergonomic charging. Accessibility features include manual or automated wheelchair ramps, and panoramic glass provides a spacious, airy interior. Advanced SWITCH iON technology monitors over 140 parameters with low latency and 80+ alerts, while dual-gun fast-charging enables quick turnarounds. Silent operation ensures a comfortable commute for seniors, people with special needs, and parents with prams, all while reducing emissions.
