As India continues to extend humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka in the wake of Cyclone Ditwah, Sri Lankan MP Namal Rajapaksa met with Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha on Monday to convey the nation’s gratitude for the ongoing relief and rescue efforts under Operation Sagar Bandhu.

The Indian High Commission in Colombo confirmed the meeting in a post on X, stating: “Hon. MP Namal Rajapaksa met High Commissioner Santosh Jha and thanked India for the ongoing relief and rescue efforts under Operation Sagar Bandhu. HC reiterated that India will continue to support the people of Sri Lanka in their efforts to rebuild and recover.”

Following the interaction, Rajapaksa also took to X to acknowledge India’s swift and sustained support during Sri Lanka’s severe flooding. “Called on the Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha to express our heartfelt thanks for India’s swift support during the Sri Lanka floods. India has consistently been our first responder in difficult times. Grateful to the Government and people of India,” he posted.

India has been sending continued assistance as part of Operation Sagar Bandhu. On Sunday, the country dispatched about 1,000 tonnes of additional relief, including essential food items and clothing, to Cyclone Ditwah-affected communities. The latest consignment was contributed by the people of Tamil Nadu, further underscoring India’s people-to-people solidarity with Sri Lanka in times of crisis.

Operation Sagar Bandhu reflects India’s long-standing commitment to supporting its neighbour in humanitarian emergencies, with New Delhi reiterating that it will stand by Sri Lanka as the nation works to recover and rebuild.
