Hyderabad, Mar 9: On the eve of International Women’s Day, Anubhuti Welfare Foundation, with CSR support from Silicon Labs and in collaboration with the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), hosted a special empowerment initiative for over 100 women Safai Mitras in Hyderabad on March 8, 2026. This event honored the strength, dedication, and indispensable role of female frontline sanitation workers, celebrating how investing in women’s safety, dignity, and skills creates lasting benefits for families, communities, and cities.

The program focused on promoting safer working environments and responsible waste management for women Safai Mitras, the unsung heroines who tirelessly maintain urban sanitation and public hygiene across Hyderabad. By equipping over 100 women Safai Mitras with durable safety boots and engaging them in an interactive awareness session on safe waste handling and disposal practices, the initiative aimed to reduce occupational hazards, enhance daily protection, and foster environmentally sustainable habits.
The event brought together representatives from Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), Silicon Labs, and Anubhuti Welfare Foundation with the women Safai Mitras themselves, underscoring the power of collaborative partnerships in advancing gender equity and workplace dignity. It was graced by T. Krishna Mohan Reddy, Deputy Commissioner, Narsingi Circle, CMC, and Dr. K. S Ravi, Municipal Health Officer, Narsingi Circle.
T. Krishna Mohan Reddy, Deputy Commissioner, Narsingi Circle, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), emphasised “Collaborative programs like this are essential to strengthening sanitation infrastructure and uplifting the welfare of our women Safai Mitras, who work diligently for the community.”
Speaking on the initiative, Ila Joseph, Head – Projects at Anubhuti Welfare Foundation, said, “Women Safai Mitras are the backbone of our sanitation ecosystem, yet their health and safety needs often remain under-recognised. Through this initiative, we aim to empower them with essential protective equipment and practical knowledge on safe waste management practices, while acknowledging their invaluable contribution to keeping our cities clean.”
The day concluded with engaging sports and cultural activities that encouraged participation and celebrated the spirit and contributions of women Safai Mitras.
This social activity forms part of the broader Safai Mitra Sarthak initiative, with the CSR support of Silicon Labs, implemented by Anubhuti Welfare Foundation, aimed at improving the health, safety, and dignity of sanitation workers while fostering sustainable waste management practices in urban communities.
