New Delhi, Mar 15: The sixth edition of the SBI Green Marathon on Sunday reached the national capital, drawing more than 6,000 participants at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium to promote environmental awareness and healthy living.

Organised as part of a nationwide campaign by State Bank of India, the marathon saw participation from professional runners, students, families, corporate teams, fitness groups and defence personnel, who gathered to support the initiative themed “Run for a Greener India.”

The Delhi leg of the marathon followed earlier runs held in cities including Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur, Patna, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad.

The event was flagged off by senior bank officials including Debasish Mishra, Chief General Manager, New Delhi Circle, along with Madhumita Mishra, President of SBI Ladies Club Delhi Circle, and other senior officials of the bank.

As part of its eco-conscious approach, organisers introduced organic T-shirts, plantable bibs and reusable cloth goodie bags to reduce single-use waste, while dedicated systems were put in place for waste segregation and responsible disposal.

The marathon featured 5 km, 10 km and half-marathon categories, with AIMS-certified routes designed to ensure accuracy and safety for runners.

Radio presenters from Radio Mirchi, including RJ Saatvik and RJ Shruti, kept the atmosphere lively with interactive sessions and motivational engagement throughout the event.

Organisers said the marathon aims to encourage citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles while raising awareness about environmental responsibility through community participation.

The Delhi edition formed part of the marathon’s 17-city nationwide campaign, aimed at inspiring collective action towards a greener and more sustainable future, they added.
