18th July 2024- Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb announced today that the process of shifting ornaments and valuables from the inner chamber of the Ratna Bhandar at Puri Jagannath temple has begun. The Ratna Bhandar opening marks the second phase of this meticulous operation, the opening of the inner chamber ( Bhitara Bhandar) with the transfer expected to be completed by this evening.

Maharaja, who accompanied the high-level committee during the opening, expressed hope that the entire shifting process would be finished by evening, allowing preparations for the Niladri Bije tomorrow.

All valuable ornaments of Lord Jagannath are being relocated to the ‘Khatasheja room’ within the Srimandir complex, which has been converted into a temporary strong room, or temporary Ratna Bhandar. Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb confirmed that the almirahs and chests inside the inner chamber are intact, and the shifting process is well underway.

Once both the inner and outer chambers of the Ratna Bhandar are vacant, high-end equipment and scanning devices will be used to ensure no items are left behind. Following this thorough inspection, the chambers will be handed over to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for essential repairs.
