Prime Minister Hails UNESCO Recognition of Deepavali as Global Cultural Honor

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed the inclusion of Deepavali in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, calling it a moment of immense pride for India and people across the world who celebrate the festival.

Responding to a post by UNESCO on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister said that the recognition reflects the deep cultural and spiritual significance of Deepavali.

“People in India and around the world are thrilled. For us, Deepavali is very closely linked to our culture and ethos. It is the soul of our civilization. It personifies illumination and righteousness,” he said.

He added that the global acknowledgment by UNESCO would further enhance the international popularity of the festival, which symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

Invoking the ideals of Prabhu Shri Ram, Prime Minister Modi said, “May the ideals of Prabhu Shri Ram keep guiding us for eternity.”

The inclusion of Deepavali in UNESCO’s prestigious list is expected to boost global awareness of India’s rich cultural traditions and strengthen cultural diplomacy through one of the country’s most widely celebrated festivals.
