02/07/2024- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across Odisha over the next five days, with isolated areas likely to see thunderstorms and lightning. Rainfall intensity is expected to increase by July 5.
IMD Director Manorama Mohanty reported normal rainfall in 11 districts, above-normal rainfall in Malkangiri, and insufficient rainfall in Mayurbhanj. A yellow alert has been issued for several districts, predicting extremely heavy rainfall over the next two days.
A cyclonic circulation over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and a trough from west Assam to north Odisha have influenced the weather patterns. Surface winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 mph are likely along the North Odisha coast in the next 24 hours due to a steep pressure gradient.
Nationwide, there is an 80% chance of normal to above-normal rainfall in July, with a 35% to 45% probability of above-normal rains in Odisha, which will aid agricultural activities and crop sowing.
