Odisha Seeks Second AIIMS, Highway Projects in Budget Talks

27th June 2024- Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo of Odisha has intensified the state’s demands for increased allocations in several key sectors during the pre-budget meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Representing Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Singh Deo called for a second AIIMS in Sambalpur, faster completion of national highways in Odisha, and partial funding from the Centre for the Subhadra scheme aimed at promoting women’s welfare.

Singh Deo emphasized that a developed Odisha would play a crucial role in driving the nation’s progress. The state’s first BJP government also sought special schemes in the Union budget to boost industries in the tribal and rural areas of Western and Southern Odisha. Additionally, dedicated funding for infrastructure development and skill training in these regions was requested.

The Deputy CM pressed for the allocation of funds for 5 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for 2024-25, the prioritization of the 348-km coastal highway project under Bharatmala Pariyojana, and the 111-km Odisha Capital Region Ring Road (CSR) project with a six-lane access-controlled highway around Bhubaneswar and Cuttack city by the NHAI for socio-economic growth.

Further demands included support for urbanization, expedited industrial clearances, funding for hydro storage and floating solar projects, green corridors, and new technologies like green hydrogen.
