Odisha Government Hikes Minimum Wages for Workers

11/07/2024- The Odisha government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, has announced a significant increase in the daily minimum wages for workers. This decision was made during the second Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.

The wage hike is expected to benefit thousands of workers in the state, providing them with better financial stability and improving their overall standard of living. The government’s decision underscores its commitment to worker welfare and economic development.

The new wages are set at 450 INR for unskilled workers, INR 500 for semi-skilled workers, and INR 600 for highly skilled workers. This move, executed under the Minimum Wages Act of 1948, aims to enhance the livelihoods of workers across the state. The previous minimum wage was INR 352 for unskilled and semi-skilled workers and INR 500 for highly skilled workers.
