Holy Trinity to Enter Shrine Today

19th July 2024-
Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra are set to enter their holy shrine and sit on their Ratnabedi today as part of the Niladri Bije ritual. This ceremony follows the Bahuda Yatra and Sunabesha of the Holy Trinity.

This year’s Niladri Bije rituals will take place on July 19. In a unique tradition, Lord Jagannath is stopped from entering the shrine by Devi Mahalaxmi, who is upset with him for not taking her to the Gundicha temple.

To appease Devi Mahalaxmi and seek her forgiveness, Lord Jagannath will offer her Rasagolla. Following this gesture, the Lord will be allowed to enter the temple and take his place on the Ratnabedi.

According to tradition, Lord Jagannath will be the last to enter the temple. He will perform the manavangana (apology ritual) to Devi Mahalaxmi, give her Rasagolla, and then proceed to the Ratnasighasana.

Niladri Bije marks the return of Lord Jagannath and his siblings from the chariots to the Srimandir in Goti Pahandi. Lord Jagannath assures Goddess Lakshmi he will not repeat his previous actions, leading her to open the Jaya-Bijay doors for him.

Niladri Bije is the only day when Rasagollas are offered to the deities in Shreemandir, symbolizing the reconciliation between Lord Jagannath and Goddess Mahalaxmi.
