12th June 2024- Odisha’s Chief Minister-designate, Mohan Charan Majhi, met outgoing Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today, extending an invitation for Patnaik to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the new Odisha government. The swearing-in event is scheduled for today at 5 pm, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top BJP leaders expected to be present.
Majhi, a four-term MLA, pledged that the new government would begin fulfilling the promises made in the BJP’s manifesto within 100 days of taking office. Union Minister Rajnath Singh announced Majhi as the CM-designate for the BJP’s first solo government in Odisha on Tuesday. This comes after Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik led Odisha for over 24 years until his party’s recent electoral defeat.
Earlier in the day, Majhi paid tribute to Odisha’s notable figures by garlanding their statues in Bhubaneswar. Accompanied by deputy CM-designates K.V. Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Majhi visited the statues of Utkalamani Gopabandhu Das at Gopabandhu Square, Utkalgourav Madhusudan Das outside Raj Bhavan, and Fakir Mohan Senapati at Vani Vihar Square.
