17th July 2024- Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar, holds great significance for Muslims worldwide as a time for reflection, prayer, and remembrance, marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year. In 2024, Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram, falls on July 17. To commemorate this occasion, here are over 30 sayings, greetings, pictures, and messages for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to honour Muharram 2024 and stay connected with loved ones.
The Islamic calendar consists of 354 days divided into 12 months, with Muharram being the second most sacred month in Islam after Ramadan. Ashura is particularly significant as it commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, with observances beginning on the evening of July 16 and continuing on July 17.
On Ashura, many Muslims participate in acts of mourning, such as wearing black, reciting elegies, and reflecting on the events of Karbala. Majlis, or mourning ceremonies, are held where people chant in remembrance of Imam Hussain. While fasting on Ashura is not obligatory, it is observed by many, with Sunni Muslims fasting on the 9th and 10th days, and Shia Muslims fasting on Ashura itself.
In regions such as South Asia and the Middle East, processions are organized to honour the sacrifice of Imam Hussain, reflecting on his struggles and those of other prophets in Islam.
