Jharsuguda, Apr 13 (BNP): In a tragic and deeply disturbing incident, a woman allegedly killed her two minor children in Tangarpali village under Jharsuguda district late Sunday night, police said.
The accused, identified as Ranjita, is suspected to have attacked her daughter Jignasa and son Bibhanshu while they were inside their home. The incident reportedly occurred when her husband was away. Preliminary reports indicate that the children were found critically injured and later declared dead.
Following the incident, the woman allegedly attempted to take her own life. She was initially rushed to the district headquarters hospital and later shifted to Burla Medical College in critical condition.
Family members and neighbours, alerted by the situation, broke open a window to enter the house and discovered the scene. The incident has sent shockwaves across the locality.
Police from Jharsuguda Airport Police Station have launched an investigation to determine the exact motive behind the incident. Officials said all angles, including possible domestic issues and mental distress, are being examined.
The bodies of the deceased children have been sent for post-mortem, and further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
