June 13, 2024 –
All four doors of the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, have been opened. This decision, made during the first cabinet meeting of the newly formed BJP government in Odisha, was announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday.

From today, devotees can enter through all four gates (dwaras) of the Srimandir, including the previously closed Ashwa Dwara (Horse Gate), Vyaghra Dwara (Tiger Gate), and Hasti Dwara (Elephant Gate), alongside the Singhadwara (Lion Gate). The reopening took place during the Mangala Alati rituals, with CM Majhi and his Council of Ministers in attendance for the ‘dwara phita’ ceremonies.

The temple gates had been closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, with only the Singhadwara reopening afterwards. The restricted access led to large crowds and long queues, prompting devotees to demand the opening of all gates for a smoother darshan of the Holy Trinity. Today’s reopening marks a significant moment for devotees and restores full access to the revered temple.
