Little Andaman, Andaman & Nicobar Islands | March 27th 2026: India’s surfing community is set to converge in the Andaman Islands as the Surfing Federation of India (SFI) announces the Little Andaman Pro 2026 – National Surf & SUP Championship, scheduled from 9–12 April 2026 at Little Andaman, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Presented by Andaman and Nicobar Tourism, the championship will bring together India’s top-ranked surfers and stand-up paddle (SUP) athletes competing in the Senior Division across Surfing and Stand-Up Paddle disciplines. The event marks the first stop of the National Surf Series, setting the stage for the road to the National Championship.
The competition will take place at the iconic reef break at Butler Bay, widely regarded as one of India’s most promising surf locations. Unlike mainland beach breaks, Butler Bay offers a shallow reef break producing long, clean, and powerful waves, allowing surfers to execute more technical manoeuvres and extended rides.
These reef formations create consistent wave shapes ideal for high-performance competitive surfing, positioning the Andaman Islands as an exciting frontier for the sport in India.
The Little Andaman Pro 2026 represents a significant step in expanding India’s competitive surfing circuit. By introducing athletes to new and technically demanding wave environments, the event provides valuable exposure beyond the typical beach breaks of mainland India.
Events of this scale play a crucial role in strengthening the national talent pipeline, offering athletes the experience and platform needed to progress toward international competitions.
Speaking about the upcoming National Surf & SUP Championship 2026, Mr. Arun Vasu, President of SFI, said: “The Little Andaman Pro marks an important milestone for Indian surfing. It not only strengthens our National Surf Series but also gives athletes the opportunity to compete in high-quality reef conditions, which is essential for their growth at the international level.”
Top Indian surfers are looking forward to competing in the unique reef conditions of Little Andaman.
Kamali Prakash, current Women’s National Champion, said: “It’s exciting to start the National Surf Series in a place like Little Andaman. Competing in these waves pushes all of us to perform at a higher level.”
Sekar, SUP athlete, added: “Little Andaman offers a unique challenge, especially for SUP racing. Events like this help us gain valuable competition experience and improve as athletes.”
Beyond competition, the championship highlights the immense potential of the Andaman Islands as a future hub for surfing and ocean sports. With crystal-clear waters, coral reefs, and consistent swell patterns, Little Andaman offers natural advantages that are increasingly attracting surfers and adventure travellers.
The event also aims to engage and inspire local communities, creating pathways for participation, training, and employment within the ocean sports ecosystem.
A senior official from Andaman and Nicobar Tourism stated: “We are proud to support the Little Andaman Pro 2026. The event showcases the incredible natural potential of the islands while promoting sustainable tourism and adventure sports in the region.”
As surfing continues to grow globally, destinations that combine world-class waves with responsible tourism practices are gaining importance. The Andaman Islands, known for their pristine marine environment and conservation ethos, provide an ideal setting for such events.
The Little Andaman Pro 2026 aims to celebrate the spirit of surfing while promoting environmental awareness and sustainable engagement with the ocean.
