IMD Forecasts Further Drop in Night Temperatures

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of a further drop in night temperatures across Hyderabad and its surrounding areas over the next few days, signalling colder nights as winter conditions intensify across Telangana.

According to IMD officials, minimum temperatures are likely to fall by 1–2 degrees Celsius, particularly in the city’s outskirts and rural pockets, due to prevailing northerly winds and clear night skies. Interior districts of Telangana may experience even sharper declines, with some areas already reporting temperatures below seasonal averages.

Why Temperatures Are Falling
Meteorologists attribute the cooling trend to dry continental air moving southwards and the absence of cloud cover, which allows rapid heat loss after sunset. Calm winds during the night are also contributing to lower minimum temperatures, especially in low-lying and open areas around Hyderabad.

“Day temperatures may remain near normal, but nights will feel significantly colder, especially during early morning hours,” an IMD official said, advising residents to take precautions against the chill.

Impact on Daily Life and Health
The sudden dip in night temperatures is likely to affect children, the elderly, and people with respiratory conditions. Doctors have cautioned against exposure to cold during late night and early morning hours, recommending warm clothing and adequate hydration.

Morning commuters may also experience light fog or mist in select pockets on the city’s periphery, potentially affecting visibility on highways and open roads.

Advisory for Farmers
The IMD has also issued an advisory for farmers in surrounding districts, suggesting protective measures for rabi crops, horticulture plantations, and livestock. Cold stress can affect crop growth, particularly vegetables and early-stage crops.

What to Expect Next
Weather experts say the cold spell is expected to persist for the next few days, with a gradual moderation in temperatures thereafter. No rainfall is forecast for Hyderabad in the immediate period.

Residents are advised to stay updated with daily weather bulletins and take necessary precautions as winter conditions strengthen across the region.
