Bhubaneswar, June 19, 2024 – After enduring intense heat and humidity, the residents of Twincity found respite on Tuesday afternoon as heavy thunderstorms brought significant rainfall to the city. The downpour, accompanied by gusty winds and lightning, provided much-needed relief from the oppressive weather that had prevailed for several days.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted that hot and humid conditions would continue in some parts of Odisha until June 19, with thunderstorms likely. They also forecasted heavy rainfall in certain areas on June 20 and 21. Despite the monsoon setting over the state on June 8, its progress has been sluggish, leading to heatwave conditions in interior districts and sultry weather along the coast.

Currently, the monsoon is active in the Malkangiri and Koraput districts. Tuesday’s rain in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack has brought a welcome break for the residents from the soaring temperatures and humidity.
