16th July 2024- Hardik Pandya has requested a break during the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, creating an opportunity for KL Rahul or Shubman Gill to step in as captain.
Regarding the ODIs, an official has confirmed that Hardik Pandya has requested a leave of absence. Pandya has already communicated his decision to regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who is also taking a break from this series. This opens the door for other players like KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, or Shreyas Iyer to potentially step into the captaincy role for the upcoming matches against Sri Lanka. while Suryakumar Yadav is anticipated to serve as the vice-captain.
