Vythiri/Wayanad: The state government is implementing an unprecedented mission in Wayanad to rehabilitate not only landslide-affected people but also livestock and domestic animals, said Minister for Dairy Development J. Chinchurani. She was inaugurating the International Livestock Conclave held at Pookode Veterinary College.
“The landslides in Mundakkai and Chooralmala caused significant damage to the dairy farming sector, resulting in the loss of helpless humans and numerous domestic animals, along with invaluable biodiversity. Rehabilitating these regions is the government’s top priority. Reconstruction efforts for Wayanad are progressing at a rapid pace. In this context, the International Livestock Conclave at Pookode Veterinary College holds immense importance. Over the next ten days, the conclave will address various issues in the dairy farming sector and implement feasible solutions. Entrepreneurship development programs related to the dairy farming sector will also be part of the conclave,” the minister said. She added that the state anticipates a compassionate approach from the central government towards the comprehensive package submitted for the rehabilitation of disaster-affected areas.
Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anil K. S. presided over the event. He highlighted that the university secured the fourth position in the Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework (KIRF), which evaluates higher education institutions based on academic excellence. Furthermore, in the Agricultural and Allied College category, the top two positions were awarded to Pookode and Mannuthy Veterinary Colleges.
Prof. Dr. T. S. Rajeev, Director of Entrepreneurship at Pookode Veterinary College, presented the project details of the conclave. The event witnessed the participation of Registrar Prof. P.
