Global Tribune Sharod Shomman honors exceptional Durga Puja musical originals

Durga Puja, fondly known as “Sharod Utsav” among Bengalis, is an autumnal celebration that seamlessly intertwines culture with commerce. This grand festival not only inspires artistic expression but also sees brands releasing special jingles and commercials. The Global Tribune embraces this fusion of creativity, honoring musical talents through the “Sharod Shomman – Pujor Shera Gaan.” With entries spanning from seasoned maestros to budding talents, the award is divided into three categories: “Shera Agomoni,” “Shera Taaler Gaan,” and “Shera Ancholik Pujor Gaan.”

Soumita Saha’s highly acclaimed Pujo song, “Rupang Dehi – Aloy Ferar Gaan,” triumphed as the “Shera Agomoni.” Agomoni songs celebrate the goddess’s homecoming, lauding her divine power. Soumita wrote and composed this evocative piece, which was recorded by Rana Mondal and mixed by Nero James from the U.S. The song reveres the goddess in her warrior and healer avatars, drawing poignant parallels with real-life heroines—female doctors and medical professionals who battled COVID, and women in the army and police forces.

The “Shera Taaler Gaan” award was claimed by Anindita S for her song “Taale Taale Dhaak Bejeche,” a joyous fusion of romance and festive energy. Penned by Chandan Banerjee and composed by Avik Dey, this track exudes a cheerful rhythm, perfectly capturing the celebratory spirit of Durga Puja. Anindita’s melodious voice brings this dance-worthy number to life, making it an instant favorite of the season.

The final category, “Shera Ancholik Pujor Gaan” (Best Colloquial Pujo Song), holds particular significance, honoring Durga Puja celebrations beyond Bengal. Many are unaware of the vibrant Durga Puja in Tripura, a festival eagerly awaited by its people. Recognizing this, the Global Tribune introduced this category to spotlight regional talent. A group of young performers—Somsubhra Acharjee, Rahul Banik, Jyotirmoy Das, and Debajit Sarkar—claimed the award for their stellar performance. The song was lyrically crafted by Soumik Banik and composed by Somsubhra Acharjee. Aditi Acharyya Roy, Assistant Editor of Global Tribune, expressed, “We are truly elated to celebrate some of the finest original compositions by these talented artists.” This recognition not only highlights artistic prowess but also bridges cultural appreciation across regions
