Cherry blossom season in Tokyo is often linked with lively parks, picnic blankets, and petals drifting through the air. But one of the most memorable ways to experience sakura is not from a single spot. It unfolds gradually, along a scenic walk connecting two of the city’s most iconic landmarks: Asakusa and TOKYO SKYTREE®.
Located within easy walking distance of each other, this route transforms into something special in spring. As the blossoms come into full bloom, streets and riverside paths turn into a soft corridor of pale pink, inviting travellers to experience sakura step by step rather than all at once.
The journey begins in Asakusa, one of Tokyo’s most historic districts and home to the famous Sensō-ji Temple. The area offers a glimpse into the city’s traditional side, where lantern-lined streets and centuries-old architecture set the tone for a slower, more reflective pace.
From here, the walk toward TOKYO SKYTREE takes visitors through local neighbourhoods and along stretches of the Sumida River. During sakura season, the riverbanks are lined with cherry trees in full bloom, creating postcard-like scenes framed by the Tokyo skyline.
One of the most striking moments comes when the blossoms appear against the distant silhouette of TOKYO SKYTREE. The contrast is unmistakable. Soft, fleeting petals in the foreground, and a towering piece of modern engineering rising behind them. It is a scene that captures Tokyo’s unique balance of tradition and innovation.
The experience shifts again upon reaching TOKYO SKYTREE itself. Standing at 634 metres, the tower offers a completely different perspective from its Tembo Deck observatory at 350 metres. From this height, visitors can see how cherry blossoms spread across the city, forming subtle patches of pink along parks, riverbanks, and tree-lined avenues.
