27th June 2024- Five people were killed and three others sustained severe injuries in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Odisha’s Balangir and Bargarh districts on Wednesday.
In Balangir district, a woman and her son died, and another family member was critically injured due to a lightning strike at Chaulabanji village under Khaprakhol police limits. The victims were working in their agricultural field when the incident occurred. The deceased have been identified as Suryakanti Kharcel and her son, Deepak Kharcel. Suryakanti’s brother-in-law sustained severe burn injuries and has been admitted to Khaprakhol Hospital.
In Bargarh district, three people were killed and two others critically injured after lightning struck them at Diwandihi village in the Padampur area. The deceased have been identified as Sukhdev Banachor, Niroj Kumbhar, and Dhanurjya Nayak. The incident happened when five people, including the deceased, were sitting under a tree and were struck by lightning.
