Kolkata: The Election Commission of India distributed 2.10 crore enumeration forms in West Bengal during the first three days of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The exercise began November 4, 2025 and continued until 8 p.m. November 6, 2025.
According to sources in the Chief Electoral Office (CEO), West Bengal, this progress is satisfactory. It compares well with 11 other states currently undergoing the SIR.
West Bengal has a total of 7,66,37,529 electors as per the electoral roll October 27. Voters whose names appeared in 2002 must update their details.
These voters do not need any supporting documents to retain their names. However, those not on the 2002 list must submit one of 11 specified documents.
Meanwhile, a three-member central ECI team visited West Bengal. The team includes Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, Deputy Secretary Abhinav Agarwal, and Principal Secretary S.B. Joshi.
The team met district-level electoral officers in Alipurduar November 6, 2025. They instructed officers to monitor Booth Level Officers (BLOs) closely during the revision.
Moreover, BLOs must wear identity cards during house-to-house visits. They should also complete their tasks within the given SIR timeframe.
Later, the central team will meet officials in Cooch Behar district. This meeting aims to review ongoing SIR progress and ensure proper implementation.
Thus, the ECI emphasizes accountability and timely work. The measures aim to improve voter list accuracy before the next elections.
