09/07/2024- Bengaluru is grappling with a concerning rise in dengue fever cases, with the city reporting its second suspected dengue death just a day ago. Dengue fever, also known as breakbone fever, is caused by a viral infection transmitted through Aedes mosquito bites.
Symptoms include a high fever, muscle and joint aches, rash, pain behind the eyes, nausea, vomiting, facial flushing, sore throat, headache, and red eyes. Severe cases can lead to hemorrhagic fever and shock, which can be life-threatening and require urgent medical attention.
Dengue is spread by mosquitoes that bite both during the day and night. Currently, there is no widely available vaccine to prevent dengue infection. The most effective preventive measures include using insect repellent and wearing loose-fitting, long-sleeved shirts and pants to protect against mosquito bites.
As dengue fever continues to rise across the country, health officials urge residents to take necessary precautions to prevent mosquito bites and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms occur.
