June 12, 2024 – With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing a majority in the Odisha Assembly elections, preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony of Mohan Charan Majhi as the new Chief Minister. The inaugural invitation has been extended to Lord Jagannath in Puri, accompanied by traditional offerings of betel nut, rice, and coconut.

Former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also been invited to the ceremony, which marks the beginning of Odisha’s first-ever BJP government. The event will take place at Janata Maidan at 4:45 pm today, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, and Chief Ministers from over five states in attendance. Other notable invitees include RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, LIC Chairman Siddhartha Mohanty, and over 100 IAS officers serving in Odisha.
Prithviraj Harichandan, the newly elected MLA from Chilika, emphasized the importance of Lord Jagannath’s blessings for the ceremony. Before the event, PM Modi will conduct a road show from Jayadev Vihar to Janata Maidan, for which a rehearsal has already been completed.
Extensive security measures are in place, covering the area from the airport to Janata Maidan. Traffic restrictions will be in effect from 2 pm to 7 pm, suspending vehicular movement between Jayadev Vihar Square and Nalco Square. Streets connecting this route will also be closed. Arrangements have been made to accommodate over 30,000 attendees, ensuring a smooth and safe experience for all participants.
