Kolkata, 6 January, 2025: West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association (WBFJA) today announced the nominations for the 9th edition of the West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Award 2025 – ‘Cinemar Samabartan’. This year, the announcement ceremony was held today at Rotary Sadan with renowned actors Rituparna Sengupta, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Director Shoojit Datta (Rino) of Khadaan fame among others. Mr Nirmal Dhar, Secretary, West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association (WBFJA) along with other renowned film journalists attended the ceremony.
WBFJA Award seeks out the leading lights of the Film industry, and will confer the best talents on Sunday,12th January, 2025 at the illustrious Ajanta Circus tent / Patuli Circus Ground. There are 17 award categories in the popular segment, 8 award categories in the Technical Award segment and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
“Cinemar Samabartan continues to stand as the premier forum for innovative storytellers, celebrating the finest talents in Bangla cinema. This unique platform is the only Industry-to-Industry award ceremony, where film critics and journalists independently evaluate the showcased talents. The primary aim of this ceremony is to inspire creativity and foster fresh perspectives, with the entire process strictly based on nominations and free from any administrative interference. This year, in a special tribute to Raj Kapoor on his birth centenary, Cinemar Samabartan will be held at an actual circus tent, evoking the grandeur and nostalgia synonymous with the legendary filmmaker. Like previous years, the ceremony will honor some of the most outstanding works and stellar performances of 2024,” said Mr. Nirmal Dhar, Secretary of the West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association (WBFJA).
The nomination categories were announced for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Actor in a Negative Role, Best Actor in Comic Role, Best Music, Best Playback Singer (Male), Best Playback Singer (Female), Best Background Score, Most Promising Director, Most Promising Actor, Most Promising Actress, Most Popular Film of the Year, Most Popular Actor of the Year and the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award. Award categories for the Technical segments are Best Screenplay, Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, Best Lyricist, Best Art Director, Best Sound Designer, Best Costume Designer and Best Makeup Artist.
This year Cinemar Samabartan, organized by West Bengal Film Journalist’s Association is set to pay tribute to the unparalleled triumph tune of life with the iconic melody, “Jeena Yaha Marna Yaha…” celebrating the unparalleled legacy of Raj Kapoor, the quintessential artist at par who started his entertainment expedition from being a props manager at Prithvi theater to being Raj Kapoor, The Showman.
