Today marks the conclusion of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which commenced on June 24. The session was notable for its energetic start, following the dramatic results of the Lok Sabha Elections, with newly elected leaders from across India taking their oath as Members of Parliament.

A significant highlight was the election of Om Birla as Speaker, a historic event as the first such election in nearly 50 years. Birla, backed by the BJP, secured victory over Congress’ K Suresh.

The session also witnessed spirited debates, including a notable face-off between Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussions ranged from contentious issues such as NEET exams to proposed amendments in criminal laws.

According to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the session achieved a remarkable productivity rate of 103%, spanning seven sittings and lasting 34 hours. Fifty members contributed speeches during this time.

The next Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to commence on July 22, continuing the legislative agenda outlined in this dynamic inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha.
