Mumbai, Mar 10: Marking International Women’s Day, Shiseido India has launched a community-led women’s health initiative in partnership with the Rotary Club of Mumbai Coastline, aimed at supporting women in the Kamathipura area of Mumbai. The programme forms part of Camellia Day, the Shiseido Group’s global social impact initiative, reinforcing the company’s commitment to promoting dignity, health, and gender equality within the communities it serves.
Designed to support nearly 300 women in Kamathipura, the initiative adopts a holistic approach that combines menstrual health education, the distribution of sustainable menstrual cups, and nutritional support. The programme also aims to build long-term awareness and encourage positive behavioural change among participants.
Speaking about the initiative, Sanjay Sharma, Country Head of Shiseido India, said:
“At Shiseido, we believe that empowerment begins with access to education, healthcare, and the ability to make informed choices. Launching this initiative on International Women’s Day as part of our global Camellia Day programme reinforces our commitment to empowering women and building resilient communities in India. Through trusted partnerships such as the Rotary Club of Mumbai Coastline, we are able to deliver meaningful and sustained impact at the community level.”
Implemented with the support of volunteers from the Rotary Club of Mumbai Coastline and medical professionals, the initiative includes structured health education sessions focusing on menstrual hygiene practices and the importance of preventive healthcare. A key component of the programme is the distribution of menstrual cups—an environmentally sustainable solution that can last up to ten years. This approach not only reduces the recurring cost of menstrual products but also promotes eco-friendly choices and empowers women to take greater control of their health.
In addition, participants will receive culturally appropriate and nutritious meals, reinforcing a comprehensive approach to wellbeing delivered with dignity and care.
Kavit Sethi, President of the Rotary Club of Mumbai Coastline, highlighted the importance of community-driven impact:
“True community impact begins when essential needs are met with empathy and action. By addressing menstrual hygiene through awareness and sustainable solutions, we are helping women lead healthier, more confident lives and strengthening the fabric of our communities.”
Dr. Nishant Mehta, Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Mumbai Coastline and Chairperson of the project, added:
“For women in underserved communities, access to menstrual hygiene is not merely a health concern—it is deeply connected to dignity, confidence, and equality. Through our partnership with Shiseido, we are able to provide both education and access to safe, sustainable menstrual solutions for women who need them most. This collaboration helps break barriers that often restrict women’s participation in everyday life, supporting their wellbeing while advancing gender equity at the community level.”
Across the Asia-Pacific region, Camellia Day mobilises employees of the Shiseido Group to actively contribute to their local communities through volunteering, mentoring, and long-term partnerships that create meaningful social impact.
Commenting on the broader regional initiative, Nicole Tan, President and CEO of Shiseido Asia Pacific, said:
“Across Asia Pacific, Camellia Day mobilises our employees to be active contributors in their local communities—through volunteering, mentoring, and long-term partnerships that create meaningful social impact. We are proud to see this purpose come alive in India through a community-led programme that supports women’s health and dignity. It reflects our mission, Beauty Innovations for a Better World, and our commitment to advancing gender equality through action.”
Through this initiative, Shiseido India continues to strengthen its commitment to empowering women and promoting inclusive community development, while contributing to broader global goals of health, dignity, and gender equality.
