March 02: The Fernandez Hospital Educational and Research Foundation (FHERF) successfully conducted its flagship Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme, “Basics and Beyond: A Masterclass in Minimally Invasive Gynaec and Pelvic Surgery,” on 1 March 2026 at The Park Hotel, Hyderabad
The full-day academic event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of over 140 consultants, residents, fellows, and postgraduate students from across Telangana and neighbouring states, reflecting the growing interest in advanced minimally invasive gynaecological surgery.
Designed to bridge the gap between theory and real-time surgical application, the masterclass offered immersive learning through live surgical demonstrations, detailed case discussions, and practical insights into surgical planning, complication avoidance, and intraoperative troubleshooting
The programme featured two stalwarts in the field:
Dr V P Paily, Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Rajagiri Hospital, brought over five decades of expertise in urogynecology, endoscopy, infertility, and high-risk obstetrics. A respected national leader and academic contributor, Dr Paily shared nuanced perspectives on pelvic reconstructive surgery and evidence-based clinical protocols
Dr Hafeez Rahman, Consultant Gynaecologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon and Head of the Department at Sunrise Hospital, demonstrated advanced laparoscopic techniques drawn from his vast experience of over 1,20,000 surgeries, including more than 35,000 total laparoscopic hysterectomies. His sessions focused on surgical finesse, ergonomics, and structured decision-making in complex cases
The academic sessions and live case highlights covered key procedures including Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (from basic to complex), Endometriosis Surgery, Difficult Myomectomy, Complete Uterovaginal Prolapse repair, Old Complete Perineal Tear repair, Non-descent Vaginal Hysterectomy, TOT for Stress Urinary Incontinence, and Vault Prolapse management
Participants described the masterclass as highly practical and clinically relevant, particularly appreciating the opportunity to observe step-by-step approaches to both routine and complex surgeries.
Commenting on the success of the programme, Dr Krupa Patalay, Senior Consultant and Head of Gyneacology, Fernandez Hospital, said: “Surgical excellence is built on continuous learning, mentorship, and the courage to refine one’s craft. ‘Basics and Beyond’ reflects our commitment to strengthening clinical capability and creating platforms where experience is shared openly. When surgeons sharpen their skills, women benefit from safer, more precise, and more compassionate care. We are proud to have brought together such distinguished faculty and an engaged audience committed to advancing women’s health.”
Adding to this, Samir Vieira, CEO, Fernandez Foundation, stated: “At Fernandez, we see education as a strategic investment in healthcare quality. By inviting leaders in minimally invasive surgery, we are contributing to a stronger clinical ecosystem in Hyderabad and beyond. Such programmes reinforce our mission to advance standards of care through structured, high-impact academic initiatives.”
The CME marks another step in Fernandez Hospital’s ongoing efforts to promote high-quality, evidence-based training and collaborative learning within the medical community.
