Sanctoria, Mar 10: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 with a series of initiatives focused on health awareness, digital safety, education, and community engagement across its operational coalfield areas.

Eastern Coalfields Limited Marks International Women’s Day with Health, Safety and Empowerment Initiatives Across Coalfields

 The main programme, organised by Women in Public Sector (WIPS) – ECL, was held on March 9 under the theme “Give to Gain” and aligned with the global campaign “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.”

The event was attended by senior leadership including Satish Jha, Chairman and Managing Director of ECL; Niladri Roy, Director (Technical/Operations); and Gunjan Kumar Sinha, Director (HR). They were joined by Kiran Jha, President of Shatakshi Mahila Mandal; Sanchita Roy; and Anubha Sinha, along with employees and their family members.

Leadership, Awareness and Cultural Engagement

The programme featured a motivational session focused on leadership, confidence, and resilience among women, encouraging employees to embrace personal and professional growth.

An awareness programme on cybersecurity was conducted by the Cyber Crime Cell Kolkata in collaboration with the Subhas Chandra Bose Scholarship Foundation, highlighting the growing importance of digital safety in everyday life.

The celebration also included cultural performances by women employees from various operational areas of ECL, reflecting India’s diverse cultural traditions and showcasing the creativity and talent within the company’s workforce.

Health Initiatives for Women Employees

In the lead-up to International Women’s Day, WIPS ECL organised a two-day special health camp for women employees at Sanctoria Hospital on March 5 and 6.

The camp offered preventive health screenings, including hemoglobin tests, blood sugar checks, calcium levels, thyroid profile (TSH), vitamin D tests, bone density examinations, general health consultations, and gynaecological screenings such as Pap smear tests.

Awareness Programmes for Students

ECL also conducted awareness sessions at Sodepur Colliery High School and Parbelia Colliery High School, focusing on adolescent health, menstrual hygiene, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), gynaecological cancers, and cyber safety.

Around 150 students participated in these sessions, gaining valuable knowledge about health awareness and digital safety.

Cancer Awareness and Community Health

At the Pandaveswar Area, ECL’s Medical Department organised a cancer awareness programme on March 7 for women employees and local residents. The programme was conducted in association with the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Cancer Institute and The Mission Hospital.

The session focused on breast and cervical cancer awareness, early detection, and prevention, followed by a health screening camp offering blood glucose testing, anaemia screening, blood pressure checks, and oxygen saturation monitoring.

Community Celebration and Engagement

International Women’s Day was also celebrated at the Satgram-Sripur Branch on March 8 at Nazrul Manch Kopex Colony, where members of Shatakshi Mahila Mandal, Dishergarh participated in various activities, including a Rangoli competition themed “Give to Gain.”

The programme highlighted the importance of guidance, financial awareness, and support systems for women, reinforcing the broader message of empowerment and community support.

The initiatives were successfully coordinated by Shrabani Choudhury, Manager (E&T) at ECL and WIPS Coordinator.

Commitment to Women’s Empowerment

Through these initiatives across its operational areas, Eastern Coalfields Limited brought together employees, medical professionals, students, and community members to promote health awareness, education, and empowerment among women.

The celebrations reaffirm ECL’s commitment to fostering inclusive workplaces, community wellbeing, and opportunities that support the advancement and empowerment of women across the coalfield regions.
