Common Illnesses During Monsoon

Estimated read time 2 min read

05/07/2024- With the arrival of monsoon, rain spells bring cooler, more humid weather, which often leads to a spike in respiratory illnesses. Symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing, coughing, throat irritation, and difficulty swallowing are common during this season.

Stagnant water from heavy rains creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of dengue, chikungunya, and malaria. These mosquito-borne diseases manifest with high fever, chills, muscle pain, and weakness.

Influenza, or flu, is another prevalent monsoon illness, often accompanied by cold and cough. It spreads easily from person to person and can be managed with rest and fever medication.

Contaminated water supply during monsoon often leads to stomach infections like dysentery and diarrhoea, causing stomach pain, loose motions, and nausea. Additionally, high humidity during this season can trigger skin allergies and infections, particularly in individuals with weak immunity or diabetes. Fungal, yeast, and bacterial infections, along with rashes and allergies, are common.

To stay healthy during the monsoon:

1. Carry an umbrella or raincoat to avoid getting wet.
2. Dry yourself quickly if you get wet and stay warm.
3. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
4. Use mosquito-repellent creams when going outside.

Taking these precautions can help minimize the risk of common monsoon illnesses and keep you healthy throughout the rainy season
