Kolkata, Apr 07: AddaTimes unveiled the trailer of its upcoming web series Byomkesh Bakshi at Chaudhury & Co in the presence of lead actors Gaurav Chakrabarty, Arna Mukhopadhyay and Shruti Das, marking an exciting moment for fans of the legendary sleuth. Directed by Aritra Sen, the series will start streaming from 10th April on AddaTimes.

Set in 1964, shortly after the Sino-Indian War, the story delves into a city grappling with rising crime and the silent spread of opium through the narrow lanes of Chinapara. The narrative begins with a mysterious murder near a men’s hostel, where an enigmatic young man, Atul Mitra, arrives seeking shelter. With the help of Ajit, a struggling writer, he secures a place – only for another murder to shake the premises. As the story unfolds through Ajit’s eyes, Atul gradually reveals himself to be none other than the iconic detective Byomkesh Bakshi, piecing together a complex web of crime and drug trade.

Based on two classic stories—Satyaneshi and Arthamanartham—the narrative seamlessly weaves together layered mysteries set in old Kolkata. The intrigue deepens with a second case involving the mysterious death of Karalibabu, a wealthy contractor, found murdered in his mansion with a stitching needle lodged into his spinal cord. With multiple suspects among his resentful relatives, the investigation takes unexpected turns, challenging the very nature of evidence and truth.

“Byomkesh is not just a detective story; it is a deep exploration of human motives, deception and morality. We wanted to recreate the essence of old Kolkata while presenting a layered narrative that keeps the audience guessing till the very end”, said director Aritra Sen.

The series features Gaurav Chakrabarty as Byomkesh, Arna Mukhopadhyay as Ajit, and Shruti Das as Satyabati.

Backed by a strong technical team, the series boasts cinematography by Basudeb Chakraborty, art direction by Kaushik Das, and costume design by Anansha Nanda, ensuring an authentic recreation of the era.

Blending suspense, period drama and psychological intrigue, Byomkesh Bakshi promises to deliver a compelling cinematic experience that revisits one of Bengal’s most beloved literary characters in a fresh and engaging avatar on AddaTimes.
