New Orleans, LA, Apr 04: The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has named Roxana Mehran, MD, FACC, FACP, FCCP, FESC, FAHA, MSCAI, as its new President. The appointment was announced during the convocation ceremony at ACC Congress 2026 held in New Orleans.

Dr. Mehran, an internationally renowned interventional cardiologist and clinical researcher, becomes the first female cardiologist from Mount Sinai to lead the ACC. The last Mount Sinai cardiologist to serve in this role was Simon Dack in 1956.

She currently serves as Director of the Women’s Heart and Vascular Center at Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital and Director of the Center for Interventional Cardiovascular Research and Clinical Trials. She is also the Mount Sinai Professor in Cardiovascular Clinical Research and Outcomes at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

“I am deeply honored to serve as President of the American College of Cardiology,” said Dr. Mehran. “My mission will be to advance cardiovascular care through innovation, equity, and global collaboration working closely with our partners at the American Heart Association and the European Society of Cardiology to improve heart health for all.”

As the 74th President of ACC, Dr. Mehran will serve a one-year term as the organization’s chief leader, spokesperson, and Chair of the Board of Trustees. Her leadership will focus on strategic vision, global advocacy, digital transformation, mentoring future leaders, and addressing health disparities in cardiovascular care.

The ACC is a global leader in cardiovascular medicine, representing nearly 60,000 members across the entire care team, and is dedicated to transforming care and improving heart health worldwide.

Dr. Mehran has made significant contributions to cardiovascular research and clinical practice, having authored more than 2,000 peer-reviewed publications and served as Principal Investigator for numerous global studies. She is also a founder and former Chief Scientific Officer of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation and leads the Lancet Commission on Women’s Cardiovascular Diseases. In addition, she founded Women as One, a non-profit organization advancing opportunities for women in medicine.

Her work has been recognized with numerous prestigious honors, including the Laennec Master Clinician Award from the American Heart Association, the European Society of Cardiology Gold Medal, and the Jacobi Medallion from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
