11th June 2024- Indian universities and higher education institutions will now be permitted to offer admissions twice a year, following the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) approval of the plan. UGC Chief Jagadesh Kumar announced that universities can admit students in two cycles: July-August and January-February, beginning with the 2024-25 academic session.
This initiative aims to benefit students who miss the July-August admission cycle due to delays in board exam results. The UGC chief highlighted that biannual admissions would enable institutions to manage resources such as faculty, labs, classrooms, and support services more efficiently, enhancing overall functionality.
Mr. Kumar clarified that offering biannual admissions will not be mandatory. Only universities with the necessary infrastructure and teaching faculty can opt to implement this system.
