Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah addressed the 92nd General Council Meeting of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) in New Delhi, highlighting the organisation’s growing role in strengthening India’s cooperative sector. He said NCDC has become a key institution for empowering cooperatives and expanding financial support, which has risen nearly fourfold to ₹95,200 crore in recent years.
Shah emphasized promoting a circular economy in sugar mills and the dairy sector to boost farmers’ income. He noted NCDC’s role in launching India’s first cooperative taxi service, which he said will greatly benefit drivers.
The Minister announced focused support for dairy, livestock, fisheries, and women-led cooperatives, with NCDC allocating ₹20,000 crore. He also highlighted the strengthening of 1,070 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), with work progressing on 2,348 more.
Under its Blue Economy initiatives, NCDC-supported deep-sea fishing trawlers have helped empower women financially. Shah added that new NCDC offices in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and the Northeast have expanded the corporation’s national reach.
