Thane CPCA Unveils Peppy & Ginger Wing – A New Milestone in Animal Welfare

Thane, Maharashtra – April 14, 2025 – The Thane Community for the Protection and Care of Animals (Thane CPCA) inaugurated its latest facility, the “Peppy & Ginger Wing” (PGW), on April 9, 2025. The event took place in the presence of esteemed community leaders, distinguished professionals, and passionate advocates for animal welfare.

The Peppy & Ginger Wing is an extension to Thane CPCA’s existing centre with advanced diagnostic tools, including specialized X-ray scanning, a modern surgical suite, and an Outpatient Department (OPD), reinforcing its mission to provide exceptional animal care.

One of the key elements in ensuring safety and functionality at PGW has been HR Johnson’s innovative tiling solutions. In the X-ray scanning area, H&R Johnson’s Radiation Shielding Tiles (RST) have been installed to offer effective protection from radiation exposure. These tiles, made from high-density, radiation-absorbing materials, are critical in environments where X-ray diagnostics are performed, ensuring both staff and animals remain protected.

Additionally, HR Johnson’s design team worked closely with CPCA to co-create a custom reception backdrop tile installation inspired by Peppy and Ginger—the animals after whom the new wing is named. These two beloved animals symbolize the spirit of care and resilience that CPCA embodies. The result is a centre that not only functions with clinical efficiency but also reflects warmth and personality.

Mrs. Shakuntala Majumdar, Founding President, Thane CPCA, shared, “I’ve worked for animal welfare since 1994. Thane CPCA began here on April 1, 2005, on a plot of land allowed to be used for animals by a generous philanthropist Mr. Nanjibhai Thakker. Despite years of appeals to authorities for space where animals could find dignity in death rather than suffer on roads, we received no aid as authorities have their own set of challenges and priorities. Yet, with our trustees, volunteers, and doctors, we’ve rescued, rehabilitated, and relocated animals across Thane, upgrading facilities with support from private individuals and animal lovers. This wing reflects their generosity.”

She added, “My deepest thanks to all who’ve supported Thane CPCA and made the Peppy & Ginger Wing possible. A special gratitude to a remarkable philanthropist and animal lover whose dedication inspired this milestone.”

Mr. Dinesh Vyas, a build material specialist representing H & R Johnson India, shared, “When I met Mr. Debashish Majumdar and learnt of his impressive vision for the PGW facility to diagnose and treat all animals, we acted swiftly, recommended and supervised the execution and laying of our special industrial tiles designed and made with superior quality high density radiation shielding raw materials and are used in hospitals, industries, research centres etc. Our patented X-Ray Radiation Shield Tiles, developed with CSIR’s AMPRI in Bhopal, ensure safety beyond the scanning room—a global innovation replacing copper plates.” On the design contribution, he noted: “Our design team crafted a custom ceramic tile mural for the reception backdrop, depicting Peppy and Ginger, honouring their inspiration and the wing’s purpose.”
