Samsung Hackathons Spark Student Innovation Across Tamil Nadu, Build Future-Ready Talent Pipeline

Chennai, India- Mar 25: Samsung, India’s largest consumer electronics brand, is hosting a series of regional hackathons in Tamil Nadu under its flagship Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) programme, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing innovation and building a futureready talent pipeline in the state.

The initiative has engaged over 350 students from leading institutions, including Anna University, Grace College of Engineering, and Mangayarkarasi College, who are undergoing intensive training and certification in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data. The hackathons are enabling students to apply these skills to solve real-world challenges through innovation-led thinking.

Launched in 2022, Samsung Innovation Campus expands access to advanced technology training for youth, combining technical skills with employability-focused learning. As Samsung marks 30 years in India, the programme reflects the company’s continued focus on empowering youth and strengthening grassroots innovation ecosystems across key states such as Tamil Nadu.

Driving Innovation Through Real-World Problem Solving

Designed around key societal themes, the hackathons are encouraging students to develop practical, scalable solutions addressing everyday challenges.

In the mental health and healthcare category, students from Mangayarkarasi College have developed RiseUp Chat, an AI-powered chatbot aimed at supporting adolescent mental well-being. Meanwhile, a team from Grace College has built an Immunization Recorder to improve vaccination tracking and healthcare accessibility.

Focusing on language and accessibility, students have created BhashaBridge, an AI-driven platform capable of translating English to Tamil with high accuracy, helping bridge digital access gaps for regional language users.

Addressing sustainability and civic challenges, students from Anna University have developed Recycle Hub, a web-based e-waste management platform promoting responsible disposal and circular economy practices. Another team has built an E-Governance Citizen Feedback System to streamline civic complaint tracking and improve infrastructure management.

“Through initiatives like Samsung Innovation Campus, we are nurturing young talent in Tamil Nadu to become innovators of tomorrow. These hackathons transform academic learning into meaningful innovation, equipping students with the capabilities required to thrive in the global digital economy,” said Shubham Mukherjee, Head of CSR & Corporate Communications, Samsung Southwest Asia.

Strengthening Industry-Ready Talent at the Grassroots

Academic leaders have highlighted the programme’s role in bridging the gap between theoretical learning and industry requirements.

“Collaborations between academia and industry are critical to building digital competence and innovation capabilities among students. Initiatives like Samsung Innovation Campus have strong potential to create a futureready talent pool at the grassroots level in Tamil Nadu,” said Dr. K. Saravanan, Associate Professor, College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University.

Echoing this, Dr. T. Sree Sharmila, Associate Professor, Anna University noted that students are demonstrating an ability to translate classroom learning into practical solutions. “What stands out is their ability to move beyond theory and design technology-led solutions addressing real-world challenges—from healthcare to sustainability.”

Faculty members also emphasised the broader impact of the programme on student confidence and creativity. “It is encouraging to see students think beyond technology and focus on community impact. The programme is fostering creativity, confidence, and problem-solving skills among young learners,” said S Abarna from Grace College of Engineering.

Advancing Digital India Through Skilling and Innovation

Implemented with the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI), Samsung Innovation Campus supports Samsung’s vision of strengthening India’s digital ecosystem. With a target to skill 5,000 youth in Tamil Nadu through SIC, as part of a national goal of 20,000, Samsung continues to build a strong innovation pipeline along with other CSR programmes such as Samsung Solve for Tomorrow and Samsung DOST.
