Stock Market LIVE Updates: January 15, 2025 – Sensex and Nifty Trade Higher Amid Muted Global Cues
Indian benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, exhibited strength on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, shrugging off subdued global market trends.
The BSE Sensex rose by 435.46 points (0.57%) to settle at 76,935.09, while the Nifty50 climbed 109.05 points (0.47%) to reach 23,285.10.
Market Movement
The 30 Sensex stocks were trading in the green. Power Grid Corporation led the gainers with a 3.72% rise, followed by NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, Zomato, and Kotak Mahindra Bank. On the losing side, Bajaj Finserv dropped 3.89%, followed by Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, Nestle India, and Mahindra & Mahindra.
On the Nifty50, 29 of the 50 stocks were in positive territory. Power Grid Corporation topped the list with a 3.88% gain, followed by NTPC, Maruti Suzuki India, Coal India, and Kotak Mahindra Bank. Key laggards included Bajaj Finserv (down 3.48%), Bajaj Finance, Shriram Finance, SBI Life, and Axis Bank.
Sectoral Performance
Sectorally, Pharma and Healthcare indices emerged as the biggest drags, declining 1.22% and 1.14%, respectively. The Consumer Durables index fell by 0.57%, while the FMCG and Financial Services indices declined by 0.52% and 0.50%, respectively.
On the positive side, the Realty index led with a 1.04% gain, trailed by the Energy index at 0.80%. Other sectors trading in the green included Metal, PSU Bank, IT, Bank, Auto, and Private Bank.
Broader Market Outlook
In the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap 100 rose by 0.42%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 advanced 0.24%, reflecting moderate optimism among mid-and small-cap stocks.
Investors remain cautiously optimistic as the markets display resilience against global headwinds.
